"The April March"
Several people have been asking me to post another video , so here's a quick one to celebrate the last day of April , & dawning of May tomorrow , where i also added my limited ability on piano as i only took up self learning it last November.
The April March - by Saul Rose / James Delarre can be found on their CD Cabin Fever.

A lovely Mazurka written by Jon Swayne of Blowzabella. Played on a Bernard Loffet AD melodeon
"Grenville Morris"
Просмотров 5 тыс.6 лет назад
A beautiful tune called Grenville Morris written by Sam Sweeney a truly brilliant musician in memory of a man that was a great inspiration to him. Learnt from the playing of Leveret (on Inventions CD) which is a huge influence to me along with with the playing of Andy Cutting and Rob Harbron.
"Trip to Skye"
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.7 лет назад
Trip to Skye written by John Whelan My first attempt at this lovely tune as MELNET is chatting about it so i thought i'd give it a go! .. It needs a bit more work to make it flow without mistakes, possibly slower will improve it too. but i think i've got the basics and tried it out on my Loffet AD box.
Danish March - Lollipop Man

A lovely pair of tunes i heard by two brilliant young musicians Jim Boyle on violin and the briliant melodeon player Dave Gray a couple of years ago. Heres my interpretation played on a Bernard Loffet AD melodeon.
'Skint Schottische'

Another tune from the staircase: 1st of 2 tunes called Skint Schottishe played from memory that i believe were written and recorded by Stephan 'Stoney' Steiner from Austria. Played on a Hohner Bb Eb Melodeon
"Very Jeune"
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.7 лет назад
Music from the staircase (gives good acoustics) A beautiful tune called 'Very Jeune' played on a Hohner Bb Eb Melodeon, learnt from listening to Trio Dhoore. (its normally in G) This is my first time playing this new (old) box and a long time since i posted a video so i thought i'd do a quick take and try and use both ends of the box as well to see what it sounds like. 'Ye Mariners Of England'
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.9 лет назад
'Ye Mariners Of England': A Naval Ode by Thomas Campbell c1800 set to music of the same name written by myself and played on a GC Castagnari melodeon, It was put together as a project actually as a song but i can't sing :-) , although it would be nice to hear it sung with gusto. The words of the poem were originally reported to be 'Ye Gentlemen of England,' composed on the prospect of a Russian...

The lovely tune Jack Robinson played as a quick take for the tune of the month for June 2014 on a Castagnari RIK GC melodeon.
"THE ROSE OF RABY"
Просмотров 5 тыс.10 лет назад
My quick take of a truly great tune 'The Rose of Raby' written by Dave Shepherd of Blowzabella fame played on a Bernard Loffet AD melodeon. I recorded this because a melodeon friend - Halil Ibrahim Onay asked what it would sound like on my 'AD' melodeon , so here it is, bit slower (waltz-ish) than the original mazurka. DTN
"Gaztelugatxeko Martxa"
Просмотров 18 тыс.10 лет назад
"Gaztelugatxeko Martxa" a Basque tune composed by and learnt from the playing Kepa Junkera as featured on his Bilbao 00:00h CD Played on my old Hohner CF Club IIIB (with its natural key percussion) and brings back great memories of visiting the Basque country and the great music and people there. I now definitely want to return and buy a trikitixa! Cheers Derek
"Les Deux Frères"
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.10 лет назад
My first recording attempt of "Les Deux Frères" learnt from the playing of Naragonia. A lovely tune played on a 3 row (1 row Acc) CF Loffet melodeon and the tune comes out in Bb (ish!) i believe. I now need to go practice and work on the rest of it! "Naragonia" are a multi-instrumental Belgian duo (Pascale Rubens and Toon Van Mierlo ) thanks Derek

'May Reel' was actually written by the late much lamented Paul Sartin and his fiddle version (with Paul Hutchinson on piano accordion) can be found on the 'Belshazzar's Feast' album 'Drop the Reed'.

Thank you for the info , and I’ll update the description to reflect this. I (and Jimbo) learnt it from my good friend Saul Rose when he was playing it in Faustus around 2006/2008 ( it’s on their first cut album) and Paul was a great friend too.

@@DerekTheNutter Yes, I noticed after posting that other videos name check Faustus as being the source of the tune. I will now check out their version which I imagine was the inspiration for the many melodeon versions on RUclips. Cheers.

    • @DerekTheNutter
      @DerekTheNutter 2 года назад

The 2 tunes learnt from the playing of Saul Rose, first tune is a variant of “go enlist for a sailor” and the second tune Knifes Edge again from the playing of Saul , the tunes are used in Chiltern 100’s Morris dance called “Shevington Moor” and you can hear us playing it for the dance side in this video ruclips.net/video/8yik_Kh0K_Y/видео.html , Saul Rose was one of the initial musicians from the side who we learnt from.
